Find out which clients and projects actually make money

Most service businesses know their top-line revenue. Far fewer know which clients, projects, or agreements are actually profitable. Orbit calculates real margin per relationship — revenue minus the cost of the time and parts it took — so pricing and capacity decisions get real data.

Who it's for

  • MSP owners pricing new agreements
  • Service managers identifying loss-leader clients
  • Finance teams reporting margin by service line
  • Anyone trying to decide which clients to expand vs let churn

Pain points we solve

  • Revenue reports without cost data
  • Pricing set once, never revisited
  • Clients that look big on revenue but are unprofitable in reality
  • No view of profitability by project or service line

How Orbit fits

Orbit ties revenue (invoices) to cost (technician time, parts, pass-through costs) at the client, project, and agreement level. The result is a live profitability view — and the data that lets you fix pricing where it's broken.

Capabilities

What Orbit delivers

Revenue, cost, and margin shown for every client — sortable, exportable, drill-downable.

Margin per project

Fixed-fee projects show real margin against the quoted price.

Margin per agreement

Retainer agreements show margin against the recurring fee, including overages.

Time-cost roll-up

Cost is derived from tracked time at the technician's loaded rate plus parts and pass-through.

Trend over time

Margin trends per relationship, so erosion gets caught early.

Common use cases

When teams reach for this

  • Identifying the bottom 20% of clients on margin
  • Re-pricing retainers at renewal
  • Justifying a new hire with utilization data
  • Identifying which service lines to grow vs sunset

Frequently asked questions

How is technician cost calculated?
You set a loaded cost per technician (salary + benefits + overhead allocation). Tracked hours multiply against that rate. You can override per-engagement if needed.
Can we see profitability for hardware / pass-through?
Yes. Pass-through costs and parts are tracked separately and roll into the same margin view.
